Here is a vintage, early 1990s, 6 note tongue drum from Hardwood Music.  Original owners, bought it new.
This set has the original mallets, undamaged.
Constructed of African Padauk and Makore woods, known for their hardiness and color.
Beautiful sound, it has held its tone.
The entire drum is undamaged, no splits or fractures.  There is a tiny knothole on the bottom that has always been there.  It is not damage, it is the wood's character.
Over time the drum has aged and the color is even richer and more gorgeous.  One tongue has slightly aged below the level of the other tongues, but it does not affect the sound nor the appearance.
